Tornado
Columbus and Phenix City pitched in today on the massive job of cleaning up what may well be a million-dollar mess left in the trail of a destructive tornado which hit the cities Monday night. Area hospitals reported at least 10 persons were treated for injuries, but none were listed as serious and all were treated and released.
Phenix Mayor
Phenix City’s mayor for three of the past nine years announced today he will not seek a fourth term on the city commission. John W. Barbee now six months short of the completion of his ninth year as member of Phenix City’s Commission, announced at this morning’s regular weekly meeting that he will retire from city government at the end of this his third three-year term.
Recreation
The Columbus Recreation Advisory Board voted Monday to contact local real estate dealers concerning potential land for city recreation.
