Carter for Congress?

State Sen. Jimmy Carter of Plains plunked down his qualifying fee today as a Democratic candidate for Congress and predicted that incumbent U.S. Rep. Howard (Bo) Callaway will be the Republican nominee. Carter said Callaway’s statewide support to seek election as governor “has not materialized.”

H.A. Chief Dies

Leo Hiram Dennis, 67, executive director of the Housing Authority of Phenix City for the past 24 years, died early today at Cobb Memorial Hospital. Dennis was named executive director of the Housing Authority in 1942, the year after the first federally financed low rent housing units were completed.

Horse Show

The community of Smiths, Ala., will present the second annual East Alabama Horse Show Saturday at newly constructed showing grounds near the Smiths Station School.
