Desegregation

Former Lt. Gov. Garland Byrd carried his case against new federal school desegregation guidelines to court in Columbus today. Superior Court Judge John Land set preliminary hearing on Byrd’s petition for June 3.

Youth Corps

The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the approval of Youth Corps projects for both Phenix City and the six-county Georgia area covered by the Lower Chattahoochee Area Planning and Development Commission. Federal funds totaling $142,134 were approved to provide summer work experience for 340 high school boys and girls in both states.

Police Awards

The LaGrange Police Dept. recently received the “Crime Analysis” award for 1965 from the National Police Officers Association of America. The City of LaGrange showed a 13 percent decrease in crime in 1965 over the previous year.
