A grant of $105,326 has been provided by the Office of Economic Opportunity in Washington for a summer Head Start program for 425 children in Columbus and Muscogee County.
Bo Bid Certain
There no longer is any doubt that Republican congressman Howard (Bo) Callaway will be a candidate for governor this year and there appears to be very little doubt now that he can win. Callaway emerged stronger than ever Monday when U.S. Sen. Herman Talmadge announced that he would pass up a bid.
Selma Case
A federal judge today ordered the Dallas County (Selma) Democratic Executive Committee to count the votes it threw out from six predominantly Negro boxes in the May 3 primary for sheriff between segregationist Jim Clark and Wilson Baker. The votes in the six disputed boxes would have given Baker, who is regarded as a racial moderate, a clear majority.
