Moon Craft
A camera-carrying surveyor spacecraft rocketed toward the moon today and officials were confident it would make America’s first lunar soft landing despite the possible failure of an antenna to extend. One of two antennas apparently failed to deploy properly after the spacecraft separated from its booster rocket.
Memorial Day
Columbus, Fort Benning and Phenix City paid homage to the nation’s war dead in brief Memorial Day ceremonies this morning. Gathered in the post cemetery, dotted with new white headstones, Fort Benning honored its dead with full military honors.
Band Awards
The Columbus High School band Thursday held its annual awards banquet at Royal Crown Auditorium and presented two top awards to senior band members Bootsie Kendrick and Bobby Mullins.
