Army Hikes Draft

Without announcing it, theDefense Department hiked its May and June draft calls by a total of 9,500 men.

The Pentagon acknowledged this today in response to questions, but described the increases as routine revision made because Army volunteer enlistments were less than anticipated.

J.S. Jones Dies

James Stacy Jones, 81, 1515 Preston Dr., a member of the Muscogee County School Board for about 25 years, died at his residence at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Fine Arts

Kathy Devine and Donald L. Smith of Columbus have been chosen to represent this area next week in Memphis in the regional contest for scholarships to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
