State Sen. Jimmy Carter of Plains, responding to a draft movement headed by several fellow senators, was expected to announce this afternoon that he is entering the governor’s race.

Copter Crash

A memorial service was to be held today for three Fort Benning officers who died when their helicopter crashed and burned Wednesday. The three pilots were Capt. Edward G. Hale, Jr.; Capt. Farris G. McMicken and CWO Donald G. Blankenship.

Viet Nam

Gen. Harold K. Johnson, Army Chief of Staff, today argued against expanding the Viet Nam conflict to destroy North Viet Nam’s economic and military capability. Johnson said such tactics might widen the war and cost a double price, since the United States would have to rebuild ultimately what it destroyed.
