Medicare Snag

Strict desegregation guidelines drawn up by the Department of Health Education and Welfare (HEW) have blocked Columbus’ two hospitals and most of the larger hospitals in Georgia from certification under the Medicare program.

Neither The Medical Center nor St. Francis has been certified yet, although both hospitals have been desegregated for more than a year.

Arts Building

Columbus College will get its proposed new fine arts building, but it may cost closer to $1.5 million than the $1 million originally estimated.

Bo Will Run

It is official. Rep. Howard (Bo) Callaway will announce his candidacy for governor at a July 4 barbecue and rally in Columbus.
