Fifty years ago today, June 23, 1966

Dog Poisonings

Jim Patrick, 4118 Lake Dr., was called home from work Wednesday because his dog Sam, a one-year-old German shepherd, had been poisoned.

According to Patrick, there have been at least 10 poisonings in the Lakewood area in the last three years: “Several members of the neighborhood feel they know who is doing this — but we can’t prove it.”

Viet Nam

Sen. Richard B. Russell, D-Ga., said today the U.S. military situation in Viet Nam is improving and political stability in Saigon is “a great deal better.”

Education

Jack Walker, superintendent of West Point schools, recently announced that 199 elementary school students are attending Head Start programs.
