Murder Charge

A Fort Benning soldier sat in Muscogee County jail this morning, awaiting a preliminary hearing in U.S. District Court on a charge of murdering his 19-year-old wife. FBI agents arrested Sp4 Robert L. Smith, 1235 Cusseta Rd., Friday after the funeral of his wife, Stephanie.

Medal of Honor

First Lt. Charles Q. Williams of Charleston, S.C., who received the Medal of Honor at the White House this week, is the second Fort Benning Officer Candidate School graduate to earn the nation’s highest award for heroism since the beginning of the war in Viet Nam.
