Hal Moore Leaving
Col. Hal Moore is leaving the lst Air Cavalry Division after two years, and perhaps leaving a myth behind. His replacement will have a rough act to follow. Moore is going home next week — the schedule calls for him to leave Monday — to his wife, Julia, and five children in Columbus, Ga., and he’s going to take leave and go fishing, hiking and camping with the kids.
Street Work
A vote of City Commissioners Monday opened the way for Cherokee Avenue to become a four lane street from Garrard Street north to Hilton Avenue.
Business
Tom’s peanuts Monday joined the growing family of General Mills with such familiar names as “Betty Crocker”, “Wheaties” and “Gold Medal Flour” as stockholders in both firms approved the multi-million dollar merger Monday of the Columbus snack foods company and the Minnesota flour products giant.
