Heat Record

A merciless mercury aimed at 90 degrees today, setting a 20-year record for July 11, the U.S. Weather Bureau reported here today. The 98, outranking July 11, 1962’s record-breaking 97, would be a repeat performance of Sunday’s high which set two records.

War Votes

Congress, ending a 10-day vacation today, barely has time to put down its suitcases before shouldering the burden of major decisions on the Viet Nam war and foreign aid. Both houses are expected to take up Tuesday the compromise version of a $17.4-billion bill to authorize procurement of military hardware and pave the way for an across-the-board pay raise for the armed services.

Primary Bill

City Commission today was to decide whether Jesse Binns’ voting ordinance becomes law or dies. If they vote “yes,” the new ordinance will insure citizens the right to vote in every city primary regardless of party affiliation without any harassment whatsoever.”
