Open Primaries

Commissioner Jesse Binns saw his voting ordinance pass unanimously at Monday’s City Commission meeting-despite objections of two prominent local Democrats. Chairman Georgia Dorman and Secretary Williard Register of the Columbus Democratic executive committee told commissioners before the vote that the ordinance was “no longer necessary.”

FBI Recovers Car

Local FBI agents have recovered one of six 1966 Cadillacs stolen in Chicago in Columbus after a Meriwether County deputy sheriff arrested two Indiana men Friday in Greenville, Ga. An agent here said the $7,000 car was found in the possession of the wife of one of the arrested men.

Army Pay Hike

Columbus area military personnel and their dependents were elated today over the almost certain passage of a 3.2 percent pay raise for uniformed servicemen.
