The Senate, overriding objections from the White House and the Pentagon, has given President Johnson standby authority to call up thousands of reservists for possible active duty in Viet Nam.

Victory Drive

The U.S. Bureau of Public Roads has approved preliminary plans for the widening of Victory Drive in Columbus to eight lanes and the construction of a regular intersection to replace the Traffic Circle.

Cons Apprehended

A Columbus man was one of four fugitives captured today after an escape from the Panama City, Fla., Jail. They were identified as Charley Bevins, Jr., 28, Columbus; Denver Youngblood, 31, Parker, Fla.; Linder Conley, 44, Cottondale, Fla. and James Lewis, 35, Marshallberg, N.C. Bevins and Conley were awaiting trial on robbery charges.
