Educators Defy Governor

Gov. George Wallace’s plan to forbid Alabama’s schools to comply with federal desegregation guidelines has been met by a solid phalanx of disapproving educators. Arraying themselves against the defiant plan Friday were the board of trustees of the Alabama Education Association, representatives of the University of Alabama and Auburn University and the Alabama Association of School Boards.

Beatles

The Beatles proved Friday night that they can outdraw religion in this staid old Bible Belt city. The shaggy singers never missed a beat during a sporadic pelting of fireworks and fruit while wowing 20,128 screaming customers at the Coliseum. Across town at the city auditorium, a group of ministers attracted 8,000 youth for a religious rally protesting the appearance of the British rock-and-rollers.

Keys to the City

The 16th annual order convention of the Georgia Loyal Order of the Moose Association and Women of the Moose will open formally today at 3 p.m. at the Martinque as Columbus Mayor B. Ed Johnson presents the keys to the city to Luther S. Turner, West Point association president.
