Public Housing

The South has the poorest housing in the country, according to a 1961 report of the federal government. The newly elected president of the Southeastern Region Conference of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment, Franklyn Lambert — also executive director of the Housing Authority of Columbus — said new housing codes and vigorous enforcement show a “great ambition in the South” toward improving living conditions.

Parking Lot

A 62-year-old building and former home of The Columbus Enquirer-Sun will be razed to make room for a new parking area at 15 11th St. Since 1930, when The Columbus Enquirer was purchased by The Ledger, the building has housed the Hardaway Construction Co. which will begin moving Thursday.

Bishop Booted

A young Anglican bishop who attacked “apartheid” has been ordered out of South Africa. Target of the deportation edict is the Rt. Rev. C. Edward Crowther, 38, an American citizen. He has served since 1965 as bishop of Kimberley and Kuruman, the largest Anglican diocese in South Africa.
