‘Hunter’ Filming

Columbus may greet another crew of moviemakers in September to film parts of Columbus native Carson McCullers’ novel, “The Heart is the Lonely Hunter.” Mrs. Jayne Hanshaw of the Arnold Agency in Atlanta, who is handling local casting for the film, said today, “Columbus is ‘under very serious consideration’ “ as the location for the filming. “Columbus is the location of the story,” she said “and the name of the town is used quite often in the script.”

Atlanta Freeway

The Georgia Highway Department announced Tuesday that State Route 85 between Columbus and Atlanta will be widened to four lanes. Highway Director Jim Gillis said the $100-million project will be financed jointly by the state and federal governments. He said construction may take 10 years.

Miss Alabama

Among the 24 finalists in the Miss Alabama pageant to be concluded Thursday in Birmingham will be Cathy Jones of Auburn and Virginia Holmes of Ozark.
