Sound Off for Friday, Feb. 5, 2016

Pick of the day

I’m not aware of candidates who are “anti-immigrant.” They all say they welcome a reasonable number of legal immigrants. Anti-illegal immigration is completely different.

Political thanks

On behalf of many citizens of Columbus, I thank Representative Richard Smith for doing what he believes is in best interest of all citizens.

Cau-what?

One hundred and forty two square inches about a former football player turned criminal, but only 56 about the results of the Iowa caucuses. Are you serious?

You hoped for too much

Online headline: “American Airlines is bringing back this free perk …” Oh … it’s “snacks.” I was hoping for “service.”

Maybe they do?

Athletes wear uniforms to show conformity, the foundation of teamwork. Flashy jewelry or long hair protruding from a ball cap or helmet is nonconformity. It says, “I think I deserve more attention than my teammates.”

Or his character

The only criticism I’ve heard of Cam Newton is that he’s a showoff. Has nothing to do with race.

Dirty suggestion

If you think you want to be governed by Republicans, ask the people in Flint, Mich.

Counting sheep

I don’t see how the anti-abortion/anti-birth control crowd can sleep at night after reading the story about the five children left hungry and filthy at a local motel.

Crooked letter, crooked letter

I asked my neighbor to spell Mississippi and he said, “the state or the river?” He also has a Trump sticker on his car.
