Sound Off for August 16, 2016

Status quo satisfaction

Dear People of Alabama: Don’t get a lottery — keep coming to Georgia to buy your tickets! Fondly, the People of Georgia.

Power bases

I fear a Clinton presidency more than a Trump presidency. Trump’s scary agenda is opposed by much of his party. Hillary’s scary agenda is supported by most of hers.

Basic science

Zika is epidemic in Puerto Rico, i.e., among American citizens. Obama could no more ban travel from there than from, say, Alabama. Tropical mosquitoes follow climate change, even if right-wingers do not.

They’re not laughing

Trump needs to realize many of his followers are crazy enough to act on his feeble attempts to joke, if that is what they are.

Futile efforts

The problems with attempting to slow man-caused warming are countries like India and China that refuse to reduce emissions and population growth that outpaces any gas reductions.

National escape clause

Hey America, we do have an alternative for president, Libertarians Johnson and Weld. Trump and Clinton are so corrupt that it scares me to think of either one being our president. Check them out.
