What is Macy’s Backstage and when is it coming to Columbus Peachtree Mall? What to know

Macy’s has been a staple at Peachtree Mall in Columbus since 2003.

Now, it is one of 37 locations getting an upgrade to include Macy’s Backstage.

What is Macy’s Backstage?

Macy’s Backstage is where people can “shop from luxury to off-price all under one roof,” according to the retailer. It is built inside existing Macy’s stores and will include everything from apparel for men, women and children to toys and housewares.

So, what is “off-price”?

Off-price means “compare at” prices.

With off-price, shoppers can get the best deal for the products that retail for much more at other stores. Don’t think for a moment that you will see clearance items and closeouts sold at Macy’s. The new Macy’s Backstage will offer exclusive brands that embrace the latest trends at affordable prices and are not usually available at the department store.

The concept is part of a three-year overhaul the retailer introduced in 2020 to “strengthen customer relationships, curate quality fashion, accelerate digital growth and optimize (their) store portfolio.”

That optimization included closing 125 stores, but Columbus was one of more than 500 stores the company predicted would stay profitable in the long run, based on its consumer trends and demographics.

The department store chain also announced that it has launched a “Mission Every One” platform. According to Footwear News, the platform is intended to “create a brighter future with bold representation for all.” The retailer plans to partner with “underrepresented designers, brands and business partners, as well as products and service providers across Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s.”
