City Council recognizes CSU women’s basketball team
The Columbus State University women’s basketball team was recognized Tuesday night by the Columbus City Council during its monthly meeting.
The recognition comes in honor of the Lady Cougars’ 2016-17 season.
The resolution reads as follows:
Whereas, the Columbus State University women’s basketball team recently finished an outstanding 2016-2017 season;
Whereas, the Lady Cougars lost just one game during their regular season;
Whereas, the Lady Cougars won the Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament championships;
Whereas, the Lady Cougars won the Southeast Regional Title and earned a place in the NCAA Elite Eight Tournament;
Whereas, head coach Anita Howard was recognized as the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year by Sportsvisions, PBC Coach of the Year and “Whack” Hyder Georgia College Women’s Coach of the Year;
Whereas, Alexis Carter, the only non-senior in the Lady Cougar starting lineup, led the team in points, rebounds, blocks and steals, averaging 16.6 points and 10.5 rebounds, ranking among the top 10 single-season totals in program history, setting the single-season record for blocks with 105 against Virginia Union during the Elite Eight, was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-American Third Team, a First Team All-PBC and All-Southeast Region selection and named the PBC co-Defensive Player of the Year;
Whereas, the achievements of the Columbus State University Lady Cougars Basketball Team are worthy of special recognition by this Council.
Now, therefore, the Council of Columbus, Georgia hereby resolves:
We hereby commend and congratulate the following members of the Columbus State University Lady Cougars for their outstanding achievements during the 2016-2017 Season: Tatiana Wayne, Narshanda Malone, Gabby Williams, Erin Morrow, Keyrra Gillespie, Alexis Carter, Britteny Tatum, Asia Vetter, Kristian Carter, Ashley Asouzu, Toxiana Wilson, Eboni Williams, Jasmine Herndon, Ariel Johnson, Erin Wilder, Kennedy Montgomery, Sabria Cotton and coaches Anita Howard, Dante Travis, Louwell Dettrey, Andresa Brown and Theo Howard. Let a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to each member of the Columbus State Lady Cougars Basketball Team.
