Former Brookstone standout James Clark leads Southeastern Amateur
Former Brookstone standout and current Georgia Tech golfer James Clark leads the 88th Southeastern Amateur by two strokes after posting a 7-under-par 63 Friday at the Country Club of Columbus.
Clark leads at 15-under, followed by Jonathan Hardee of Boiling Springs, S.C., at 13-under and Dillon Woods of Jacksonville, Fla., at 10-under.
A five-time state champion at Brookstone, Clark posted four birdies and a eagle on the front nine to go out in 30. He also birdied 18 in his bogey-free round. Clark entered the third round one shot behind Hardee and Woods.
Ben Carr, a senior-to-be at Columbus High, is 3-under after three rounds, shooting 69 each day. Carr went out in 37 Friday, including a double-bogey on No. 2, before coming home in 32, with birdies on Nos. 11, 13 and 16. He’s tied for 15th heading into the final round.
Columbus grad and current Mercer player Stanton Schorr shot 1-under Friday and is 3-over, tied for 38th, after three rounds.
Columbus natives Evans Copeland and Charles Waldrep did not make the cut.
