It took more than the scheduled four quarters on Friday for Kendrick to snap a losing streak that dated back to October 24, 2015.

The Cherokees (1-5, 1-1) got the upperhand on Rutland at Memorial Stadium, picking up a 34-31 overtime victory. After Rutland kicked a field goal to start the extra session, Kendrick quarterback Orlando Posey threw a touchdown pass to Saquain Tarver to end the game.

Kendrick had rallied to force overtime thanks to another touchdown pass from Posey to Tarver, this with 1:09 left in the fourth quarter. The Cherokees were forced to go for two to tie the game, and it was another Posey-to-Tarver connection that knotted things up at 28 points apiece.

The Cherokees have a bye week before hosting Pike County on Oct. 12. A victory for Kendrick would give the team its first win streak since October 2014.
