After Jordan quarterback Emmanuel Mann dealt with injuries in his sophomore season, he was determined to make 2017 his breakout year. Thanks to Mann’s strong arm and quick feet, he was able to do just that.

Mann was electric on offense this fall, throwing for 1,062 yards, rushing for 1,004 yards and scoring 23 total touchdowns. Mann’s efforts kept the Red Jackets in the playoff hunt going into the final regular season game and also caught the attention of anyone who saw him take the field.

Thanks to his play, Mann has been chosen as the 2017 All-Bi-City 1A-3A Offensive Player of the Year.

“I knew if I didn’t do anything this year, it would be too late. I knew I had to play real good,” Mann said. “This was my year, and I accomplished my goals.”

Mann said he felt his biggest improvement came in his football IQ. Mann said he got a better grasp of how to read defenses, which certainly made making big plays an easier thing to do.

For Mann, there wasn’t one particular play or game that stood out in his mind. It was more generally about the big scrambles he took to the house to help the Red Jackets, something that quickly became a common occurrence in his play.

“When I broke out and had like an 80-yard touchdown, those were my best moments,” Mann said.

Mann’s work caught the attention of several prominent programs, including Alabama and Georgia. Mann said the interest has been growing since his season ended, and although he still has plenty of time to make a decision, he has a general idea of what he wants to see in a program.

“I’m looking for a school where I can get some playing time my freshman year,” Mann said. “I don’t have to go to a big school — I just want to play. I want a team where I know I can get on the field.”

Even though the attention is nice, Mann made it evident he has plenty left to do. He said his biggest focus going into 2018 is his passing skills, an area of his game which showed a high ceiling this fall.

Mann wowed behind center again and again in 2017, but as far as making big plays is concerned, he’s only getting started.

“I’ve been happy about (the interest), but you know I want more,” Mann said. “I’ve got to stay hungry.”
