Skubal leads Lakeland to 5-0 win over Palm Beach

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Tarik Skubal struck out 10 hitters over six innings, leading the Lakeland Flying Tigers over the Palm Beach Cardinals in a 5-0 win on Monday.

Skubal (1-1) picked up the win after he allowed three hits.

Lakeland started the scoring in the second inning when Austin Athmann scored on an error and Cole Peterson hit an RBI single.

The Flying Tigers later added single runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings to finish off the shutout.

Edgar Gonzalez (1-2) went six innings, allowing three runs and seven hits in the Florida State League game. He also struck out four and walked one.

The Cardinals were blanked for the first time this season, while the Flying Tigers' staff also registered their first shutout of the year.
