‘Master troll’ Lane Kiffin is stirring the pot on Twitter as Auburn rumors swirl
Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin is stirring the pot on Twitter as rumors swirl that he may be heading to Auburn.
It started Monday when the sports director for a Starkville, Mississippi TV news station tweeted that Kiffin will leave Ole Miss on Friday and announce he’ll be head coach for the Tigers football team.
“...Sources say the Tigers haven’t officially offered the job to anyone yet. So Lane to Auburn is happening. Story soon,” WCBI’s Jon Sokoloff posted. The tweet has since been shared more than 6,000 times.
Both Kiffin and Ole Miss have denied the report.
In a retweet of Sokoloff’s tweet, Kiffin said, “That’s news to me Jon. Nice sources.”
Later Monday, Kiffin took the wording from Sokoloff’s tweet and posted a “scoop” that the WCBI director would be leaving his post in Starkville for a job at WLOX-TV in Biloxi. The tweet went viral and WLOX reporters took part in the fun.
He later confirmed the tweet was “fake news” and was a humorous response to Sokoloff’s report.
Called a “master troll” by the New York Post, Kiffin then tweeted a photo of himself “reading up on the Egg Bowl” ahead of the Thanksgiving face-off between the Rebels and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
We’ll see if Sokoloff’s report comes true on Friday.
