The winner of the Ledger-Enquirer’s High School Girls Athlete of the Week poll is . . .
Aliala Whitaker of Kendrick is the Ledger-Enquirer High School Girls Athlete of the Week, based on our online poll.
Whitaker, a senior center on the basketball team, led the Cherokees to a 38-29 home win Feb. 6 against Rutland. She produced a triple double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals.
We invited the athletics director at each public and private high school in Muscogee County, Harris County, Chattahoochee County, Phenix City, Russell County and Smiths Station to nominate a female athlete for this poll.
Among this week’s three nominees, Whitaker received 64% of the 17,944 votes from our readers. Voting started Monday and ended at noon Friday. The poll has no limit on the number of times a person can vote. Here are the complete final results:
