Phenix City drops opener

GULFPORT, Fla. — The Phenix City Little League major softball all-stars fell 4-2 to Franklin, Tenn., in their opening-round game in the South Regional on Friday.

Allie Kelley pitched all six innings for Phenix City and gave up four unearned runs.

Kaelen Scott had a hit and scored a run. Cailah Niles also had a hit and drove in a run.

Phenix City will play the second of its three pool play games against Virginia at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Columbus Pioneer was set to play its first game at 1 against Erwin, Tenn., however, the game was being held up by lightning.
