Chattahoochee Valley Community College baseball splits games with Southern Union

WADLEY, Ala. — Chattahoochee Valley split its doubleheader with two one-run games against Southern Union. CVCC lost the opener 5-4 and won the second game 1-0.

Johnny Gunter (6-2) pitched a complete-game one-hitter in Game 2 for CVCC. He allowed a one-out single in the second inning, walked two and struck out five. No opposing runner reached scoring position.

Bo Foster’s two-out double in the third set up the game’s only run, which Nick Stephens knocked in with a single.

CVCC lost Game 1 in an extra inning. Tom Richardson (2-for-4) put the Pirates ahead in the top of the 10th with a solo homer, but CVCC relievers walked the bases full in the bottom of the inning and blew the game.

The loss marred Foster’s pitching and hitting performance. He threw nine innings, left with the game tied 3-3, and went 3-for-3 with a homer and double.

CVCC (20-11, 6-5 in Alabama Community College Conference) and Southern Union (21-10, 8-3) will play the series finale today at 3 p.m.
