CVCC sweeps Enterprise-Ozark


ENTERPRISE, Ala. — Behind some clutch hitting and stellar pitching, Chattahoochee Valley Community College swept the series from Enterprise-Ozark winning 12-11 and 9-2.

In Game 1, Drew Freeman came in relief of Derek Varnadore and picked up the win. Freeman threw four innings without giving up an earned run.

CVCC did, however, kick the ball around allowing several unearned runs.

The game was back and forth in scoring until CVCC scored the winning run in the top of the ninth and Game 2 winner Johnny Gunter came in to get the save in Game 1.

Matthew Black went 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs. Jeff Shields went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Black and Shields went back-to-back with their homers.

Tom Richardson went 2-for-4 with a 3-run homer.

In Game 2, Gunter threw a complete seven innings. He did not allow an earned run and struck out 12.

Kevin Putkonen went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Richardson went 3-for-5. Donte Williams went 1-for-4 with a big two-run double.

CVCC improves to 31-1, 15-16.

The Pirates will host Andrew College Tuesday at 2 p.m. They’ll play two.
