A pair of former Carver players and a Shaw player will join the 2010 signing class today, which is national signing day.
Dequan Menzie, a former Carver player, will sign with Alabama; Patrick Grant, also a former Carver player, will sign with Virginia Union; and Taverus Lewis, a former Shaw player, will sign with Gulf Coast Community College.
Menzie was a senior defensive back on Carver’s 2007 Class AAA state championship team and spent the past two seasons at Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss. Recruiting site rivals.com ranks Menzie as the No. 14 junior college transfer in the country.
Grant played linebacker for Carver through the 2006 season and has been at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

Lewis, who played quarterback and receiver at Shaw through 2008, took a year off. He enrolled at GCCC in January.
