Warner Robins rips six homers in opening victory at Georgia Little League Major Baseball All-Star State Tournament

Walton, Murphey Candler, Toccoa also win

Warner Robins hit six home runs in a 9-6 victory Saturday over Brooks in the Georgia Little League state tournament, which is being played at American Little League in Columbus.

Jake Fromm and Logan Byrd collected two hits apiece to lead Warner Robins to the win in a game that lasted nearly three hours.

Fromm was also the winning pitcher. He was one of seven pitchers used by the team in an attempt to keep all of them eligible to pitch again today. According to Little League pitch count rules, a pitcher who throws fewer than 20 pitches can return to the mound the next day.

Fromm’s first home run came in the first inning to center field to give Warner Robins a 2-0 lead. The homer also brought in Dalton Gilliam, who had singled.

Fromm’s next homer ended up on Double Churches Road. The third-inning blast gave Warner Robins a 3-0 lead. The lead expanded to 6-0 with three runs in the fourth. After Connor Brown and Gabe Holt singled, Gilliam hit a three-run homer to left field.

Brooks got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth. James Norred drove in the run with an infield single.

Byrd increased Warner Robins’ lead back to six with a homer to lead off the fifth inning.

Brooks rallied to cut its deficit to one run in the bottom of the fifth. Robert Townsend walked with the bases loaded to drive in the first run. Brandon Bell followed with a three-run triple. He scored on a wild pitch.

Warner Robins got a pair of home runs in the top of the sixth from Logan Arnett and Byrd.

Warner Robins plays Columbus Northern in another Pool B game today at 1 p.m.

The format for the tournament splits 10 teams into two pools. Each team will play the other four teams in its pool. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semifinals.

Lucas Cloud hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give Walton the walkoff victory in the other game in Pool B.

Martinez-Evans had rallied with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5.

Blake Heard started Walton’s sixth inning. After an error and a strikeout, Cloud hit his homer. Cloud was also the winning pitcher.

Elyssa Melton led Martinez-Evans with a home run in the fifth. She scored two runs.

Murphey Candler hit four home runs in the opener for Pool A.

Charlie Haas (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Stevie Gebhardt (2-for-4, 3R, 2 RBI), Tyler Reid (1-for-2) and Wyatt Thompson (2-2) hit home runs for Murphey Candler.

Ken Brunson picked up the win. He allowed three runs in two innings. He also had three strikeouts.

Tyler Darnell hit two homers and drove in four runs to lead Cartersville. Boo Reed also homered.

The game was delayed almost two hours due to the field being wet.

Toccoa blanked Bryan County in another Pool A game.

Andrew Floyd pitched three innings to earn the win for Toccoa. He had four strikeouts.

Floyd (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) and Caleb Lowery (2-for-3, 2B) hit home runs for Toccoa.

Bryan County finished the game with just one hit, delivered by Aaron Braswell.

Format: 10 teams are split into two pools. Each team plays the other four teams in its pool over a five-day period. The two teams with the best records in each pool advance to a single-elimination final four. The champion advances to the Southeast Regional in Warner Robins.
