Walsh, Nichols, Wrenn power Georgia to 4-0 win over Appalachian State

ATHENS, Ga. -- Jared Walsh threw seven scoreless innings and Daniel Nichols and Stephen Wrenn both homered to lead Georgia to a 4-0 win over Appalachian State Wednesday at Foley Field.

Nichols' solo shot put Georgia (12-5) on top in the bottom of the second inning. The Bulldogs picked up their other three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. DJ Smith singled in Nick King to make it 2-0. Wrenn followed with a two-run homer to close out the scoring.

Walsh (2-0) struck out six and spread out five hits to pick up the win. Taylor Thurber gave up four runs on six hits and took the loss for Appalachian State (5-11).

Georgia defeated Appalachian State 6-3 on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs open SEC play this weekend, hosting Missouri for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. The Saturday game is at 2 p.m., and the Sunday game is at 1 p.m. The Friday and Sunday games will available on SEC Network Plus.
