JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Columbus’ Jason Fober and Cason Hammock shot a final-round 65 on Sunday and held off another team from Columbus to win the Georgia Four-Ball Championship.
They finished the three-round tournament at the Standard Club 20-under par 196.
"The golf course was in great shape," Hammock said in a news release. "Considering all the rain we've had this weekend, the superintendent did a great job. The greens were rolling well."
The win was the duo’s second in the event. They also won in 2011 at Green Island Country Club.
The format calls for both players to play each hole, but the team counts only the best score on each hole.
Adam Cooper and Bubba Gallops, also from Columbus, finished second at 198. They also shot a 65. on Sunday.Cooper and Gallops started the day two shots back. They twice got to within one.
But an eagle on No. 7 and back-to-back birdies on Nos. 10 and 11 gave Fober and Hammock a four-shot lead with seven holes to play.
"We felt like we needed validation for our win in 2011," Hammock said. "Our game plan was to hit fairways and greens, and we did that today. Jason and I mesh well together; we've been playing together for a long time."
Columbus’ Neil Hatcher and Stanton Schorr shot a 76 Sunday and finished 45th at 219.
