New parking procedure set for Carver vs. Spencer Heritage Bowl in Columbus

To decrease the chances of a major traffic jam Friday night at South Commons in downtown Columbus, the Muscogee County School District has changed the entry procedure for fans attending this year’s Heritage Bowl.

While high school rivals Carver and Spencer will play their annual football game in A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, starting at 7 p.m., the Atlanta Braves’ Class AA minor league baseball affiliate, the Columbus Clingstones, will play on the other end of the South Commons parking lot against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in Synovus Park, starting at 7:05 p.m.

MCSD advises, instead of entering the parking lot through the main access point at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Fourth Street, fans attending the Heritage Bowl should enter via Lumpkin Boulevard. Signs will be posted to help drivers follow the rerouted traffic, according to MCSD.

“We encourage all fans to review the map prior to arrival to ensure a convenient parking experience and minimize delays,” MCSD’s news release says. “After the game, we ask for your patience and cooperation to ensure an orderly and safe exit. Please follow the instructions provided by stadium staff to support a smooth departure for all attendees.

“We realize that some requirements are not always convenient but absolutely necessary when protecting our students, schools, and community. We all play a critical role in school safety, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. “
