According to a defensive line teammate, Auburn’s biggest pass rushing threat sat out the team scrimmage Saturday.

Auburn defensive tackle Montravius Adams confirmed after the scrimmage that sophomore defensive end Carl Lawson did not participate in the scrimmage at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

After the scrimmage, which was closed to the media, was completed Adams said freshman Jeff Holland was starting at the Buck position, which serves as the defensive end/linebacker spot in the new defensive scheme of coordinator Will Muschamp.

Malzahn wasn’t asked about Lawson’s absence from the scrimmage Saturday but stated the 257-pound pass rusher has been “unblockable” in previous practices and last week’s scrimmage.

Lawson suffered a major anterior cruciate ligament tear in his knee and that surgery forced him to miss the entire 2014 season.
