Patrick Mahomes Sparks Speculation About Week 1 Status With New Video

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gave his fans something to cheer about this spring.

Mahomes suffered a torn ACL against the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 14, 2025. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told NFL Network that his quarterback was doing well in his recovery process but he was unwilling to say he's ahead of schedule.

"He's doing great right now and that's kinda how you gotta go about this," Reid said earlier this week, via Pro Football Talk. "People go ‘well, he's ahead of schedule.' Who made the schedule? Everybody's different, let's just take it day by day. Nobody is spending more time than he is rehabbing, he spends seven hours here going through it. He hasn't missed a day and he wants more, all the things that are Patrick Mahomes. Let's see where we are at as we go forward as we get a little bit closer to the game."

Well, the Chiefs can't hide Mahomes' progress any longer. The team's social media account shared a video of the three-time Super Bowl champion practicing at OTAs.

Fans are convinced Mahomes will be ready for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.

"Still over 15 weeks left until the season," one fan said. "He isn't just the best QB in the league, the dude is not human He will be playing Week 1."

"We are so back," a second fan wrote.

Should Chiefs fans temper their expectations?

After the NFL unveiled its schedule for the 2026 season, ESPN's Adam Schefter said fans should pump the brakes when it comes to their Week 1 expectations for Mahomes.

"Let's not diminish that he tore his ACL, he tore his LCL. This is a major injury," Schefter said. "How does a player come back from that? Assuming he plays that Monday night opener, do you think we're getting the full-on Patrick Mahomes in Week 1?"

We totally understand why Schefter wants NFL fans to give Mahomes time to get back to his usual self. That being said, it's hard to be patient when Kansas City's gunslinger is displaying superman abilities.
