Sparks Receive Diagnosis After Kelsey Plum Leaves Practice With Injury
The Los Angeles Sparks may have to spend their next few games without All-Star guard Kelsey Plum.
Sparks reporter Justin Russo revealed that Plum suffered a right lower leg injury during Tuesday's practice session. The timing of this injury is pretty brutal for Plum, who had 38 points and nine assists in a win over the Las Vegas Aces this past Saturday.
"Honestly, I'm trying to go out and be super patient," Plum said after defeating his former team. "You get to a point in the league where you're seeing a lot of different coverages. I really appreciate that coach [Lynne Roberts] has a lot of trust in me, and my teammates trust me to make decisions."
Luckily for the Sparks, it sounds like Plum avoided a catastrophic injury.
ESPN's Alexa Philippou just reported that Plum suffered an ankle sprain. She'll be evaluated in a week.
Who'll step up for the Sparks?
Plum is currently leading the WNBA in scoring with 26.8 points per game. It's tough to replace that kind of production on such short notice.
On the bright side, the Sparks only have four games on their schedule between now and next Friday, June 5.
Nonetheless, the Sparks will need Ariel Atkins, Cameron Brink, Dearica Hamby and Erica Wheeler to take on a larger workload during Plum's absence.
