WNBA Fans Have the Same Reaction to Unfortunate Kelsey Plum News
The Los Angeles Sparks are 3-3 on the season, having won their last two games after starting the campaign with a 1-3 record. Kelsey Plum has been behind their incredible run, with the All-Star guard carrying the offensive load for L.A.
In six games played for the Sparks, Plum has averaged 26.8 points, which is the best in the league. She's also fifth in assists in the WNBA with 6.3 dimes per game.
Unfortunately, the Sparks won't have Plum for at least one week following an injury suffered during practice. Alexa Philippou of ESPN broke the news, reporting that the two-time WNBA champion injured her ankle and will be evaluated in a week.
"Breaking: Four-time WNBA All-Star Kelsey Plum suffered an ankle sprain in practice today and will be evaluated in one week. Plum is currently leading the league in scoring at 26.8 PPG," Philippou wrote on X.
After news of Plum's injury emerged, fans were quick to show support for the veteran guard and highlight how big of a blow it is to both the Sparks and the WNBA.
"Huge blow for the league, hope it's just a quick one for Plum," a commenter wrote. Another one said, "What a devastating blow @Kelseyplum10. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and she's back hooping soon."
A fan added, "That's unfortunate. Wishing her a complete recovery."
"Bad for the sport. Hope she's ok and avoided anything major," a supporter shared.
A follower stated, "Man! I'm so sorry KP sprained her ankle. She's been balling big-time! Prayerfully, she gets to the other side of this quickly."
"Brutal. Get well soon KP!" a sixth social media user posted.
In the next seven days, the Sparks have three scheduled games. They will play the Washington Mystics on Friday, the Connecticut Sun on Saturday and the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday. Based on Plum's timeline, she's set to miss all of these games.
Her next opportunity to play will come on June 5 against the Dallas Wings; however, that will depend on her evaluation in a week's time. For now, the Sparks faithful can only hope for the best.
