Eagles' Jalen Hurts Sets Lofty New Goal
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts appears humble this spring as he rehabilitates his image after a rough 2025 campaign.
The issues with the Eagles offense were enormous last season, leading to the ouster of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. Some Eagles players noted Hurts was to blame for some of the dysfunction on offense, wanting the scheme to bend to his will at the expense of his teammates.
Hurts has a new goal for the upcoming season. In addition to leading Philadelphia to wins this fall, he wants to become an “expert” quarterback in the league.
“I always want to do whatever it takes to win,” Hurts said, via the Eagles. “I do really want to become an expert at the (quarterback) position and I want to grow within the position.”

Hurts credited new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion for answering his questions this spring. The Eagles have a clear vision for the offense under Mannion.
“It’s been a really good process so far,” Hurts said. “He’s (Mannion) come in and he’s very clear, given good direction. You can definitely see the vision. Been able to answer all of my questions. Very instructive, very helpful. So it’s been a very enjoyable journey so far.”
Hurts has impressive accolades on his NFL resume, earning three Pro Bowl nominations, one All-Pro honor, and Super Bowl LIX MVP.
Hurts threw for 3,224 yards, 25 touchdowns (career high) and six interceptions last season. There are reasons for the Eagles to believe he will bounce back and become the leader they need to return the Super Bowl for a third time under the quarterback.
But Hurts and the Eagles offense are expected to have a considerable challenge in the upcoming season. It is the expectation around the league that wide receiver A.J. Brown will be traded next week, and likely to the New England Patriots.
Brown wasn’t shy about his frustrations with the Eagles offense last season. In New England, he’d be the undisputed No. 1 target for quarterback Drake Maye.
The cupboard won’t be bare for the Eagles on offense if/when Brown leaves. Hurts will have DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, Dontayvion Wicks and first-round pick Makai Lemon.
The Eagles will need Hurts to command the offense to make it work without Brown. NFL quarterbacks who are experts at the position are able to lead offenses with much less.
