Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show Made Emmys History
Although we're roughly five months removed from Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show, he just keeps on making history.
Despite all the controversy surrounding Bad Bunny's halftime show, his performance at Levi's Stadium averaged 128.2 million viewers on NBC. Not only did he break Shakira and Jennifer Lopez's record for most-watched Super Bowl halftime show on YouTube in a 24-hour span, he had the most-watched Super Bowl halftime in Telemundo's history (4.8 million viewers).
"Bad Bunny is, and I think that was demonstrated last night, one of the great artists in the world and that's one of the reasons we chose him," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said. "But the other reason is he understood the platform he was on and this platform is used to unite people and to be able to bring people together with their creativity, with their talents and to be able to use this moment to do that and I think artists in the past have done that."
At this stage in Bad Bunny's career, he doesn't need any validation from the public. That being said, his Super Bowl halftime show just received nine Emmy nominations. He's now officially responsible for the most-nominated Super Bowl halftime show in Emmys history.
Bad Bunny's halftime show is being recognized for production design, directing, choreography, technical direction and camerawork among other categories.
Who'll follow up Bad Bunny?
According to Polymarket, the current favorite to perform at next February's Super Bowl halftime show is Miley Cyrus.
"I always think the Super Bowl feels like too much pressure," Cyrus once said during an interview with Variety. "I would have to do the mental work of making it not about the Super Bowl, because then you can't help but go, ‘It's millions of people, and it's the most-watched thing in the world.' But if I could find a way to make it exactly what the Hannahversary was - taking a journey through the discography and appreciating each song, each era for what it is - I think I could find it in myself."
There have also been rumblings about the NFL going with the trio of Karol G, Camila Cabello and Becky G for Super Bowl 61 at SoFi Stadium.
