Mohamed Salah Could Move to MLS After Liverpool Exit: Report

Mohamed Salah and Egypt‘s national team received a heroes’ welcome after earning the country’s best-ever finish at the 2026 FIFA men’s World Cup.

It doubled as preview of how Salah, 34, will be welcomed wherever he chooses to play next after recent Liverpool exit after nine incredibly successful seasons at Anfield. Four English Premier League Golden Boots, two Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy, just to name a few.

According to Paul Tenorio and Tom Bogert of The Athletic, Sporting Kansas City has emerged as the “top suitor” in Major League Soccer (MLS).

However, it’s considered “a long shot” that Salah actually lands in MLS because he has “heavy interest” from the Saudi Pro League.

“Sources indicate Salah prefers to remain in Europe, but, as he mulls his options, he remains open to a move to MLS,” the report reads, noting Sporting KC majority owner Peter Mallouk‘s Egyptian heritage as a potential selling point.

Salah showed what he still has to offer a club during this World Cup. The Pharaohs’ captain registered two assists and one goal, which seem underwhelming on paper, but Salah was all over the pitch. More importantly, he was the soul of the best Egyptian World Cup run in history.

Egypt earned its first-ever World Cup win by beating New Zealand in the group stage on June 21 and went on to win its first-ever World Cup knockout stage match by outlasting Australia on penalties in the Round of 32.

The Pharaohs were on the cusp of pulling off one of the most impressive World Cup upsets of all time. Egypt met Argentina, the defending champion, in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, July 7, and held a 2-0 lead deep into the second half before Messi and company woke up - coming back to win, 3-2.

“I know you’re still upset, but I promise you that I’ll do everything in my power to ensure this marks a fresh start for Egyptian football on the international stage,” Salah posted on X after the devastating loss. “Qualifying for the World Cup won’t be enough, and just participating won’t cut it either. This team deserves your trust.”

Salah will bring surely reignite trust in whatever club he chooses to join, whether in Kansas City, Saudi Arabia, or anywhere in between.
