Controversial ESPN Reporter Put on Leave After Life-Threatening Accident
It's been a rough few months for ESPN's Matt Miller.
The longtime draft analyst was recently involved in a brutal car wreck that left him in critical condition and led to the amputation of his left arm.
Miller posted on X to inform his followers of the incident, and a GoFundMe was set up to help with cover the cost of his medical expenses and potential prosthetic arm replacement.
But in the days after Miller's initial post, several people came forward accusing him of scamming them through multiple fantasy football leagues.
Miller was reportedly the commissioner of 90 fantasy football leagues, of which several winners reportedly weren't paid out their winnings. Some pointed out the curious timing of several of those winners getting paid out shortly after the GoFundMe was launched.
Being at the center of controversy while also dealing with a dire medical situation was enough for ESPN to place Miller on a leave of absence with his future with the company seemingly up in the air.
"A quick update: The surgery to remove my left arm was successful with hopes of an eventual prosthetic replacement," Miller posted on X. "Similarly, the femur and patella surgeries were also successful and the fantastic surgery team was able to save my left leg.
"To best focus on my healing and recovery, I'm stepping away indefinitely and will be placed on leave from ESPN. Thank you to all for the prayers and thoughts; please keep them coming."
The last few weeks have certainly been a bad look for Miller, who signed a contract extension with ESPN just last year and is also under investigation by the Missouri Attorney General's Office for withholding fantasy football payouts.
Miller hasn't publicly addressed any of the accusations against him, but the GoFundMe set up for him has been paused.
