Columbus Lions re-sign six, including QB Casey Kacz
The Columbus Lions announced the re-signing of six players for the 2016 season on Tuesday, including PIFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year Casey Kacz.
Kacz, who began the season as a backup, led the Lions to the 2015 PIFL championship.
In the championship game against Richmond, Kacz went 16 for 26 for 187 yards and four touchdowns.
"I'm excited to get Casey back, both as a player and as a person" Lions coach Jason Gibson said in a news release. "He understands the game as well as anybody, and I'm excited to see him build on the things he started during his rookie season. He can only get better and build on his success."
Five other players from last year's squad have also been re-signed. They are Roshawn Marshall, Dezmond Beverly, Michael Reeve, Martin Davis and Lindsey Wolfe.
Marshall, who is returning for his third season, led the Lions with five interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
Beverly played in six games last season wand finished with 18 catches for 164 yards and five TDs. Reeve spent most of last season on the practice team. But he caught 11 passes for 124 yards and two TDs late in the season against Alabama.
Davis, an offensive lineman, spent last season on the practice squad.
Wolfe, the kicker, scored 95 points last season, second in the league behind the Lions' Terrence Ebagua.
Note: The Lions will be holding a free-agent tryout at Garrett-Harrison Stadium on Saturday at 10 a.m. Go to columbuslions.net for more information.
