Columbus High finishes ninth in Hoover, Ala., volleyball tourney
HOOVER, Ala. -- Shardonee Hayes had 36 kills to lead Columbus to a ninth place finish Saturday in the Hoover Over the Mountain Tournament.
In pool play, the Lady Blue Devils defeated Tuscaloosa County (25-16, 11-25, 15-11) and Brooks (25-16, 25-11) before losing to Cookeville, Tenn., (14-25, 15-25). That 2-1 record was good for second place in their pool, and they moved into the gold bracket.
Columbus lost to Bayside (21-25, 25-27) and finished ninth out of the 32-team field.
Jha'Meisheia Griffin had 11 kills, three blocks and two digs. Skylar Blackmon had 62 digs and Madison Fleming recorded 67 assists in the tournament.
Columbus hosts Hardaway and Carver Tuesday at 5 p.m. Five Columbus players will be honored on Senior Night.Friday at Hoover
