Former Carver coach Dell McGee named Georgia Southern's interim head coach
Georgia Southern running backs coach Dell McGee was named interim head coach on Saturday by athletic director Tom Kleinlein.
McGee, a Kendrick graduate and a former Carver head coach, will coach the Eagles in their first bowl game on Dec. 23. The Eagles (8-4) play Bowling Green (10-3) in the GoDaddy Bowl at Mobile, Ala.
McGee is replacing Willie Fritz, who accepted the head coaching job at Tulane on Friday.
McGee was Carver's head coach for seven seasons and went 85-14 with a state championship in 2007. He left for Auburn as an offensive analyst in 2013. McGee was hired by Fritz before the 2014 season. Fritz promoted McGee to assistant head coach on Nov. 9 of this season.
McGee has the Eagles as the top rushing team in the nation, averaging 355.6 yards per game.
