National signing day athletes' time to shine
Not even a personal tour of Tuscaloosa, Ala., from Alabama coach Nick Saban could change Carver quarterback Jawon Pass' mind.
Pass gave his commitment to Louisville in July, but he took an official visit to Alabama two weeks ago, sparking rumors that he might change his mind. He put those thoughts to rest early Wednesday when he signed to play in the fall for the Cardinals.
"I'm just loyal to my word," Pass said. "I knew from the start I wasn't going to change my commitment."
Pass was one of 59 Bi-City football players who
signed Wednesday, including 17 Division I players, 12 on the Football Bowl Subdivision level and five in Football Championship Subdivision.
Another 12 Bi-City athletes signed Wednesday in other sports, including a pair of Division I signees.
Pass will join his brother, Khane, and former Central standout Treveon Samuel, both of whom signed with Louisville last year.
Jawon Pass was one of 11 Carver players to sign Wednesday.
Central had the most with 12 players, six of whom signed with Division I schools.
Smiths Station had the largest group with 14 -- six football players and eight from other sports.
