College Baseball Roundup: Curry’s HR leads UGAto win over Missouri
Freshman Michael Curry hit a homer and drove in three runs to lead Georgia to a 5-2 win over Missouri on Sunday at Faurot Field in Columbia, Mo.
Curry hit a solo homer in the fourth for a 1-0 lead.
Skyler Weber drove in a run in the fifth for a 2-0 lead.
Curry singled in two runs in a three-run seventh. LJ Talley doubled in the final run for a 5-0 lead.
Missouri scored single runs in the seventh and eighth.
Heath Holder (4-3) earned the win. He started and pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks. He struck out seven.
Bo Tucker pitched the final two innings and earned his third save.
The win gave the Dogs (26-26, 10-17 SEC) the series after a split in Saturday’s doubleheader. Missouri is 25-27 and 8-19.
Georgia plays Georgia Tech at Turner Field in Atlanta at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Mississippi State 10, Auburn 3
Nick Lowe drove in three runs as Mississippi State finished a sweep of Auburn with a 10-3 victory on Sunday at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala.
Lowe hit a two-run homer, one of three homers by the Bulldogs.
The Tigers didn’t score until the seventh, but by that time they trailed 7-0.
Anfernee Grier (Russell County) drove in a run in the ninth.
Auburn (22-30, 8-19 SEC) will host UAB on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Mississippi State is 37-14 and 18-9.
Alabama 7, Arkansas 4
Alabama scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally past Arkansas 7-4 on Sunday at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark.
The win also gave the Tide a sweep in the series.
Georgie Salem hit a two-run, two-out single to give the Tide the 5-4 lead. W. Haynie added a two-run single to increase the lead to three.
That single gave Salem three hits on the day. He had a double and a homer earlier in the game.
Alabama (30-21, 15-12 SEC) will host Samford on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Arkansas is 26-25, 7-20.
Georgia Tech 5, Virginia 4
Arden Pabst hit a two-run homer to lift Georgia to a 5-4 win over Virginia on Sunday at Davenport Field in Charlottesville, Va.
Pabst’s homer capped off a three-run fourth inning. Trevor Craport had led off the inning with a homer.
Matthew Gorst (1-1) picked up the win in relief. He pitched the final 6 1/3 innings, blanking the Cavaliers on three hits.
The win allowed the Jackets (33-18, 12-14 ACC) to avoid the sweep. Virginia is 33-18 and 16-11.
Georgia Tech plays Georgia at Turner Field in Atlanta at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
