The Chattahoochee Valley Community College baseball team is headed back to Grand Junction, Col., for the JUCO World Series for the third straight year.

The Pirates hammered out seven home runs in crushing Calhoun Community College 22-6 on Wednesday in the ACCC tournament championship game at Eagle Stadium.

Will Campbell, who was named the tournament’s MVP, hit two of the home runs. He finished with five RBIs.

Carson Hughes hit a grand slam. Brandon Hill, JT Thomas, Frank Wager and Jaylyn Smith added homers.

Campbell hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first as CVCC took a 2-1 lead.

Calhoun added four in the top of the fourth, chasing CVCC starter Logan Haner, who gave up six hits in the inning.

Christian Vann came on in relief and pitched the final 5 2/3 innings to earn the win.

While Vann shut down the Calhoun batters, CVCC’s hitters went to work.

The Pirates scored a pair in the bottom of the fourth on a Smith single and a Jayson Cook sacrifice fly.

CVCC took the lead back and put the game away in the fifth, scoring eight times to take a 12-5 lead. Smith and Campbell both hit three-run homers.

Hughes’ grand slam came in a five-run sixth. Wager hit a solo homer in that inning as well.

Hill hit a three-run homer in the seventh. Thomas hit his homer to lead off the eighth.

All nine starters had at least one hit for CVCC, which finished with 24. Nolan Greckle had four hits and scored four runs. Thomas, Wager, Smith and Cook had three apiece.

Wager joined three CVCC pitchers — Chase Adkins, Jordan Lee and Chase Burks — on the all-tournament team.

The game had been scheduled to be played Tuesday afternoon, but it was delayed by heavy rain in south Alabama.

CVCC will open the world series on May 28 at 2 p.m. against the winner of the Eastern Regional. That regional is set to start Friday in Bel Air, Md.

The world series championship game is on June 3.

CVCC went 1-2 in its 2014 trip, then went 2-2 last year, advancing to the semifinals.
