SEC softball roundup: Auburn, Georgia, Alabama all win NCAA openers

Catcher Carlee Wallace hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Auburn to a 2-1 win over Jacksonville State on Friday in the NCAA Regional at B. Moore Field in Auburn, Ala.

Victoria Draper opened the seventh with a bunt single. Tiffany Howard and Emily Carosone were hit by pitches to load the bases.

Kasey Cooper hit a grounder to first, and Draper was thrown out at the plate.

Wallace followed with her fly ball to right field to score Howard with the winning run.

Rachel Walters (10-3) won the game in relief. She allowed just one hit and a walk in 4 2/3innings. Walters struck out 10 of the 14 batters she retired.

Auburn (50-9) will play USC Upstate at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

 

Georgia 6, Maine 0

Tina Iosefa and Alyssa DiCarlo combined for four hits and five RBIs to lead Georgia to a 6-0 win over Maine in the NCAA Regional at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga.

Chelsea Wilkinson and Kylie Bass combined to limit Maine to just five hits.

Georgia will play Northwestern at 1 p.m. Saturday.

 

Alabama 3, Samford 0

Alexis Osorio pitched a two-hitter to lead Alabama to a 3-0 win over Samford on Saturday in the NCAA Regional at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Osorio struck out 13.,

Haylie McCleney hit a homer and drove in two runs.

Alabama will play Cal at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
